Part 7: The Sing of Peace and Communion

  • Wish your fellow servers the sign of peace. Do not leave the altar to wish others the sign of peace. If the Priest is going to wish you the sign of peace he will come to you, do not go chasing after him to shake his hand.
  • Before proceeding to the west side of the altar Server 1 is to check if there is an extra ciborium on one of the credence tables. Although generally only 2 ciborium’s are needed (1 that is brought up with the gifts, the contents of which have just been consecrated, and the other which already has consecrated hosts in it and is found in the tabernacle) if there is a choir in the balcony a 3rd ciborium is needed. If there is a choir in the balcony and an extra ciborium on one the credence tables Server 1 is to pick it up and place the extra ciborium on the corporal immediately after extending peace to his/her fellow servers.
  • Once this task is complete all 3 servers are too proceed in front of the altar, bow, and then form a line on the west side of the altar
  • Once the LAMB OF GOD has been sung all 3 servers are to kneel down. Servers are to rise immediately after the priest and any concelebrants have received both the Body of Christ and the Blood of Christ.
  • All servers should remember to bow before receiving communion.
  • Servers who have not been Confirmed should not receive the Blood of Christ and if offered should quietly say “No thanks” and discretely shake their head. No dramatic hand gestures are necessary and your hands should remain in the altar server position.
  • When the Priest and the Extraordinary Ministers have left the altar all 3 servers should go in front of the altar, bow, and return to their seats.
