Part 6: The Consecration

  • Following the HOLY, HOLY the servers are to properly kneel down. This is similar to genuflecting. Your left leg takes a half-step forward and your right knee comes down. The left leg is then slid back into the same position as the right leg and you are kneeling. Your hands are in the altar server position and your back is straight. You are not slouching or leaning on your butt or on your chair! You should not have to use your hands in any way to kneel down!
  • Server 1 is then to quietly bring the bells out from behind his/her seat and get into position to ring them.
  • The Captain is to ensure that Server 1 is ready to ring the bells at the appropriate time.
  • Server 1 waits for the priest to hold up the unconsecrated bread and say “….which will be given up for you.” When Father says this he will then further elevate the Eucharist and Server 1 should ring the bells loudly and continuously until the Priest starts bringing the Eucharist back down.
  • Server 1 then waits for the Priest to hold up the chalice full of the unconsecrated wine and say “…do this in memory of me.” When Father says this he will then further elevate the chalice and Server 1 should ring the bells loudly and continuously until the Priest starts bringing the newly consecrated Blood of Christ back down.
