| This page has been created using information from the St. Augustine's Parish Stewardship Team, Parish Bulletins, and "By Steps not leaps" our Parish history book. It is meant to provide us with an opportunity to celebrate the many wonderful good works that are being done in our parish. As well, it is our hope that it will provide you with an opportunity to discover the gifts that God has given you, and to match those gifts to a particular ministry. It is our prayer that with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, new and exciting ministries will continue to develop, enabling us to respond fully to our baptismal call. | |
| The Society of St. Vincent de Paul | |
![]() |
The Society is an international association of Catholic lay people, devoted to the service of the poor and disadvantaged.
The local chapter meets weekly or as required to give material aid to those in need. The St. Augustine Chapter was formed in 1963 with Pat O’Sullivan appointed president, Al McDonald as secretary and Paul Rowley as treasurer. The wonderful works are financed through monthly collections at the door of the church on the first Sunday of each month; through voluntary donations of the members; and through donations from others. Funds collected are used for many necessary projects like distributing hampers to the needy. This takes place once a week in our parish. Each hamper is valued at approximately $14.00. They distribute approximately 60 – 100 hampers a month, 1000 hampers a year. In addition to monetary aid, assistance is given in the form of food, clothing, furniture and shelter. Much of the assistance given by the society is of an emergency and temporary nature and is given in the form of vouchers at the rectory. For those requiring long term assistance, contact is made with the Provincial and City officials through the society’s liaison officer. (Matthew 25) For more information on the Society of St. Vincent de Paul ministry please contact Dora Boschman |
